This is the 4th and last article in a series which describing my visit to NUES 2010 confernce a conference on the comics cultures of the Mediterranena in Cagliari the capital of Sardinia, my impressions, and an overview of Sardinian comics culture..

This article describes a comic I encountered during the conference, the first and only comic book published in the Sardinian language, and brings my interview with the creator Manuelle Mureddu.

Mauelle aspires to a renewal of all the good and special in the ancient Nuraghe culture of the island of Sardinia.

חלק זה יעסוק בחוברת קומיקס שבה נתקלתי במהלך הנסיעה חוברת הקומיקס הראשונה והיחידה אי פעם שפורסמה בשפה הסרדינאית המיוחדת לאי ויביא ראיון עם היוצר Manuelle Mureddu השואף להחייאה של כל הדברים הטובים והמיוחדים בתרבות הנוראגית הקדומה של האי סרדיניה.

בסרדיניה צפיתי בעניין בתערוכה במיוחדת שעסקה בקומיקס של האי סרדיניה עצמו וגיליתי שהמדובר בתרבות מיוחדת במינה .התברר שיוצרי קומיקס סרדינאים הביאו משנות התשעים ואילך לשינוי פניו של הקומיקס האיטלקי כולו הודות ליצירת סדרות מתוחכמות של מדע בדיוני ובראשם "NATAN NEVER
עיון דקדקני בחוברות סדרה זאת שתורגמו לאנגלית וגם חוברות רבות בשפה האיטלקית הביאה אותי לכמה מסקנות והשערות לגבי אופיו של הקומיקס של האי סרדיניה.

During the conference Nues 2010 I discovered, thanks to a special exhibition on the history of Sardinian comics, that Sardinia has a unique comics culture. Among the most famous comic artists from Sardinia is Aurelio Galleppin, the creator of the western comics Tex, which is also the longest running Italian comics series.

However, the true breakthrough of Sardinian comics came in the 1990's when three Sardinian fans of comics and science fiction, who came to be known as "the Sardinian gang", Michele Medda, Antonion Serra, and Bepi Vigna, created Nathan Never in 1991. This is a realistic and detailed science fiction comics on the adventures of a private eye in a cyber-punk future, the like of which Italian comics has never before seen. The series introduced S.F. as a successful genre to Italy. It garnered success in all of Europe and spawned spin-off series. If Nathan Never hadn't breathed new life into Italian comics the comics industry in Italy might have been in a very bad financial condition at the beginning of the 21st century.

A close reading in the Natan Never comics which were translated to English shows that there is a persistent sub text in them of the need of what can be called SYNERGY, the need and the ability of the fiercly independent characters to accept the best of what other cultures including quite different once can offer them an d to develop it …in there own way while at the same time they are keeping their hard won independence of thought and action .

And perhaps there is a lesson there from the history of the island of Sardinia which at all times could accept what other cultures gave it but always in their own special version
